Jesse Helms Center This facility holds a wide variety of exhibit items and contains fascinating art and media diplays highlighting the life of retired Sen. Jesse Helms, a native of Monroe. Museum of the Waxhaws Experience regional history from 1650 to 1900, including Andrew Jackson’s life. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Nominal admission charge. Expansion is underway with outdoor exhibits which re-create living spaces from Scots-Irish settlers and Indians, picnic area. Most months feature a theatrical or educational program.
